  • What do I need to do to prepare the site?
This aspect is important to ensure the quality and durability of your YourCube. After inspecting the site, you are responsible for levelling the ground and ensuring suitable access to the delivery point for our truck and mobile crane. The foundation will obviously vary when building on a slope. If you are opting for the on-grid version, you need to ensure that the water, electrical, and sewage connections are installed before delivery.
  • How are the YourCube units packaged and delivered?
The units are pre-manufactured and will be delivered in flatpacks. For the assembly, a mobile crane will lift the modules onto your site. The delivery location must be accessible to the truck and mobile crane. In case this is not possible, we can also manufacture onsite for an extra charge. As long as a 4x4 vehicle can access the premises, we can make a plan!
  • Are building plans required?
Strictly spoken, yes. Every structure on a property needs to have approved plans, by law. We can assist with the building plan submissions to council in the Cape Town area, at an additional cost. Speak to us if you have any questions.
  • Which finishes can I select?
For the external cladding, you can choose between metal cladding (concealed and fixed) and wood cladding. The metal cladding comes in three colour options: white, light grey, and charcoal. For the outdoor wood cladding, we use Luna wood, which is more durable than pine. The wall finish is skimmed and painted rhino board, we use rhino board or spruce for the ceiling. We have a designer’s choice colour scheme for the kitchen and bathroom in the bigger units (Entertainer and Family Hub), which is included in the price. If you would prefer a different style and colour scheme, please speak to us and we will give you a quote for your preferred option.

  • Does a timber frame house last as long as a brick house?
It is a common misconception that timber frame houses do not last long. They are as durable as traditional brick houses.
  • What are the advantages of a timber frame house?
There are numerous advantages, to just name a few: It can be built in less than two months, so you can move in sooner. The timeframe from ordering your Cube to moving in is cut significantly, thanks to off-site pre-manufacture. Modular homes can be assembled within a matter of days, compared to many months of traditional building. Our building methods have a minimal ecological impact as they are less invasive. Should you decide to move the YourCube one day, it leaves a minimal footprint compared to a traditional house, which cannot be moved in any case. The short time on-site reduces the risk of material being exposed to rain and there are no expected delays due to bad weather conditions. As an owner, you do not have to live with the building stress and hassle for long. Before you know it, you’ll have your new house or studio, ready to use. Another huge advantage is, that timber frame houses provide excellent thermal insulation. As a natural insulator, timber helps to regulate the temperature at home to maintain a comfortable living space while reducing energy consumption and costs. Finally, we want to build with nature without harming it. With our building methods and natural, eco-friendly materials, we want to contribute to a healthy environment and a more mindful, conscious, and sustainable lifestyle.
